STANDING TALL TOGETHER As I watched this Colorado autumn unfold I was struck by two things. It was marvelous how long the leaves remained on the trees this fall season. Perhaps it was our salve to endure a harsh winter. Secondly, I was curious at how frequently I saw a green-leafed aspen standing tall adjacent to its golden-leafed brother. It reminded me
how minute differences in climate, either a fraction more shade or wind or perhaps more water in a tree’s basin, can produce such a seemingly big difference. I cannot see these differences in microclimate, only the resulting distinction in foliage. But in essence, these green and gold quaking aspen remain the same, roots connected and drinking from the same trough. There are many more similarities in these trees than differences. Reminds me of you and me and our similarities, even if the differences are most noticeable. |
