Language Clues to Healthy Conflict or Abusive Relationship

Are you looking for clues to discover whether your relationship has normal levels of conflict or abusive patterns? Words, language and communication style may give you the answers you’re looking for. The regular use of any of the following sentences, or phrases like them, is a signal that emotional abuse and control patterns are likely occurring.

flower“Because I said so.”
flower“It’s your fault.”
flower“I’ll tell you what to do.”
flower”You don’t need to know.”
flower“You know what your problem is.”
flower“This is for your own good.”
flower“Shut up!”
flower“You don’t know what you’re talking about.”
flower“Get over it.”
flower“… or else.”

Or Name calling.
Learn to listen to the way that your partner is communicating, not just the words. If regular communication patterns contain many of the above phrases, it is no longer just normal conflict.
